WASTE LAND BOARD.
Theweeklymeetingof the.Board was held on Wednesday morning. The following members were present : — The Chief Commissioner (in the chair), Messrs Butterworth, Clark, John Reid, and Strode. CAEEYINa CAPACITY OP ETJNS. A report was received from the Assessor on the carrying capacity of runs Nos. 448, 449, and 450 — namely, 448, 400 sheep ; and 449 and 450, 1000 sheep and 450 sheep respectively. The roport was approved. COAL LEASE IN LEANING EOCK DISTEICT. A letter was received from Mr, C. T, Marie relative to his application for a coal lease on section 117, block 11., Leaning Rock district. Mr. Gillies, of Gillies and Street, appeared for Mi 1 . Marie. The matter was adjourned for a week. LEASE OF TAUWIKI ISLAND. Messrs Paul and M'Pherson, on behalf of Mr. Stephen Tall, applied for a lease of Tauwiki Island, near the mouth of Catlin's River. A license was gra-ite.l under the 161 st section of the Waste Lands Act, at a rental of £1 per annum. PXCHANOE OF LEASES. The following applications to exchange leases under Clause 62, were approved : — Butler, sections 65 and 66, Block VII., Shotover ; John Crossan, section 32, Block 1., Cairnhill. PURCHASE OF AGEICUL'tUBAL LEASEHOLDS. The following applications for the purchase of agricultural leaseholds were approved :—: — Bobert Leslie, section 29, Block 1., Cairnhill. Jno. White section 2S Block I, Cairnhill. Jno. M'Donogh, sections 5 and 30, Block 1., Cairnhill, - J. E, Kemp, sections 53 and 54, Block 1., Cairnhill. OBJECTION TO SALE OF POETION OF BLOCK VIII., DUNEDIN AND EAST TAIEEI. A petition was received' from Mr. Robert Blair and others, objecting to the sale of section, 9, Block VIIL, Dunedin and East Taieri. The Board resolved that 42 acres of land afFected sliould" be cut up by survey into four sections, the wlole reserve to be then sold. Mil. CONNELL'S INDEX TO VHE -W.IST.G LANDS Acr, 1872. The Chief Oommissiouei said he thought he ought to bring undei the notice of the Board the work, just published by Mr. J. a. Counell— " 'ihe Otago Waste Lands Act, 1872, with Analytical Index." He had gone through the book, and it seemed to him to be a very good one. lie thought they should recommend the Government to supjjly eopii-s of the work to members of the Board and the oJHcers of the department. Mr. Strode -thought the book was very carefully got up. The Chief Commissioner said that such publications deserved to be encouraged It must have entailed an enormous amount of woik. Ihe following minute was recorded :- "Resolved to recommend the Government to supply members of the Board and the various officers with copies of this useful work."
