(From the Dunedin Dailies.) Wellington, December 23rd. It has been stated here on excellent authority that the Hon. Mr Bathgate will shortly retire from the Ministry, and be appointed Resident Magistrate for Dunedin, in place of Mr Strode. Mr O'Eorke, it is understood, will become Minister of justice. The nominations received for the Wellington Cup are Mr R- Campbell's Castaway and b filly by Traducer, Mr Brown's Loch-invar, Mr. Eedwood's Dead Shot, Mr. Watt's Calumny and Hatred, Mr. Perkin'3 Songstress and Matter. The Wellington Sowing club will send (•eyes boats 10 Canterbury for the Interprovincial Regatta, including the Stella and the Dolly Varden. The Hon. W. B D. Mantellis seriously ill. Nelson, December 23rd. The ship Harvest Home has arrived from London after 99 days' passage. Wellington, December 24th. All the tenders for the erection of the new Government Offices have been declined, because they are largely -in excess of the Colonial Architect's estimate. Auckland, December 24th. The case against the Doctor of the Chile is proceeding. The witnesses of the defence testify to the violent character of Mrs. Vessey. They also state that a tarpaulin was spread over her on deck, when the heat was so intense.. Also that the capstan was not high enough to permit of the*suspension of the woman by her arms so that her feet would be off the ground. They further state that it I was absolutely necessary to restrain her, as she was dangerously violent. It is alleged that Mrs. Vessey was jealous of another woman named Wall, and had determined to injure her. Mr. Alexander Saunders reports — Buyers : National Bank of, New Zealand, £2 13s; National.
