The Governor started overland for-Dunedin this morning, y 1 December, 19th. The Agricultural Association has decided to hold a ram fair on the first Friday in March, and a mid-winter show on the Queen's Birthday. TnrAEiT, December 16. The foundation stone of a new school which will cost £5000, was laid to-day. The horticultural show was a great success. Melbourne, December 11. | A mining company at Clunes refused the miners' reasonable requests as to hours of work and pay. The miners " struck. " The company brought Chinese to supply their places. The Chinese- were escorted by police, who were successfully attacked by the minors. The Chinese returned to Ballarat under escort. Climes has now, an extra, police garrison. . The Ballarat sewing machine girls gave a ball and banquet to Major Smith for his
services in passing the Female Employment Bill. j Wheat is very scarce 5 small parcels fetch ss. 7d. Oats scarce : common sort, 4s 6d. Flour in parcels for shipment up to £12 15s. The programme of the races has been published for the end of January.
