(From our own Correspondent.) Dunbdin, Nov. 28th, 7.45.p.m.
Colonel Cargill, Major Atkinson, and a number of volunteer officers had an interview with the Superintendent to-day, with reference to the land in Dowling-street, on which it iB proposed to build the Supreme Court. The land was granted to the volunteers three years ago, and the deputation, on behalf of the volunteers, wanted a satisfactory equivalent before giving it up. The terms of exchange were not arrived at to-day.
Mr. George Miller, of the Scotch College, Melbourne, has been appointed Rector of the Invereargill School. The Claud Hamilton arrived at the Bluff with cable news and European mails. London, November 15th. Money easier, and the Bank of England reserve stronger, owing to the arrivals of gold.
The wool market continues firm. 40,000 bales have arrived. Tallow market flat. New Zealand hemp dull, and stocks heavy, November 16th.
The Cubans have shot &J of the Virginia^ filibustering crew. America demands reparation, and threatens extreme measures.
England has notified to Spain that if any more English subjects are executed, she will hold Spain responsible. The Spanish President says he will maintain the honor and integrity of 'Spain, but will telegraph to England and America the satisfaction required by international law with reference to the executions. A British squadron has been ordered to Cuba.
The English have defeated the Ashantees at Delmina.
Thejcommittee of fifteen have arrived at resolution prolonging M'Mahon's powers as President for five .years, M'Mahon demands seven years unconditional prolongation as terms of his re-election.
