The proper way to gauge galvnised; iron will be decided with a cose pending at the Resident Magistrate' a Court. A quantity of the metal was forwarded to Groymouth from Dunedin, but did not appear to give the recipient satisfaction. Some fault was found with the gauge and quality of the iron, and the consequence is an action at law. Eight practical men at Greymouth declare that several cwt.. measure thelßin. gauge, and other experienced parties in Dunedin aver that the iron forwarded measures from 20in to 2 tin. It wns yesterday declared in Court tte most accurate means of gauging is to cut a corner off the galvnised irou and one of the litigants produced a sample whi h measured on one side 16 in., and on the other 20hi. gauge. The case of Robert Moore, who wa? found guilty at the July criminal sittings of giving a false answer to the Returning officer at the election of a member for the Anderson's Bay district, has been brought before the Court of Appeal, upon a point raised by Mr W. D. Stewart, who defended the prisoner, to the effect that there was no such: offence as personation and giving false- answers at the election of Provincial Councillors. The Court 'has adopted the contention of counsel, and the conviction has been quashed. W© learn from the- "Tfinaru Herald," recently, the body of a man was found in the creek on the southern side of the Commercial Hotel. The body, which was conveyed to the police-station,, hna bean identified as that of a mad named Thompson, a Swede, who a little- time ago followed the occupation of a drayman at Rengiora, and it w also stated that he. was toe man who- executed Swale at Lyttleton.
