BEAUMONT.
{From a Correspondent.) It is not often that we see in your valuable journal any correspondence from this locality; but now that the bridge is going up, and the residents seem to take more interest in the place, I may take the liberty of sending you a few items. The Rev. Mr. Menzies delivered a very instructive and amusing- lecture on Wednesday evening, in aid of the ehuroh here ; after which he amused the audience with some very attractive scenes from his magic lantern, which were highly approved by the young folk. On Saturday evening a largely attended meeting was held at the Crookston Hotel, for the purpose of forming a committee to expend the Government grant of £100 for the formation of a- road from the flat to the bush. Mr. Neville occupied the chair. The following gentlemen were elected as the Committee :—: — Messrs. Buchan, Lancaster, M'Beath, Cowap, and Beaton. These gentlemen immediately set to their work, and I hope will soon finish the task of preparing tenders and specifications. As a finish, I may mention that another meeting is called for next Saturday evening, to take into consideration the best means of having the river reserve opened. One gentleman has now fenced it in, thereby preventing any miners or residents having the use of it, and has even had the audacity, whenever any miner's horse or cattle are running on it, to drive them off out on the range ; and further, is now in act of ploughing the same. I consider the Government should see into this matter, but the meeting on Saturday evening will most likely communicate with them on the subject.
