A man named Francis South, charged with drunkenness at the Magistrate* Court this morning, after receiving sentence took out bis pocket knife and attempted to stab Constable Yernon, who had charge of him. The Con* stable knocked South down, and wrested the knife from him. At a meeting of the Education Board to* day, Mr. Donald Perie, at present Senior Classical Master at the Scotch College, Melbourne, was unanimously elected Inspector of Schools. Twenty-nine applications were received. Mr. Perie has bad large experience, and is highly recommended by competent authorities. *
