THE REV. MR. BEAUMONT IN EXPLANATION.

[To tJie Editor.) Sin, — In your comment on my speech in the Diocesan Synod on the .education question, you have fallen into an errer. I was speaking against Archdeacon Edward* motion for leave to enter tho schools for half an hour each day, and I said " that religious teaching, to be of any real u%o, must pervade the whole conduct of the school ; that it must not bo like the marrow in the bone, so that one could say there was marrow and there was bone ; but that it must be like sugar in the tea, diffused through it." You probably took your repovt of my words from a Dunadin paper ; in such case, would it not have been fairer to have said I was reported to have said so and so ? I am, however, glad that you have had an opportunity for descanting on the merits of your housekeeper, who is, I am quite sure, we 1 deserving of your praise of hei\ — Yours faithfully, G. P. Beaumoxt. The Parsonage Lawrence, 10th November, 1873. [We acknowledge the justice of Mr. Beaumont's mild rebuke, that it would have been fairer towards him had we said he was reported to have said so and so. The report wo read of Mr. Beaumont's remarks appeared in the " Evening Star."— E». " T.T."]
