AI<EXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL, {Tq the Editor.) Sib,— r=There is a rumor afloat here tending to damage the reputation of one of our publio men ; and being a lover of fair play,, I will, with your permission, give the gist of the rumor, so that any one interested may give the facts, of the case. It is this : That at the last election of Town Councillors for Alexandra, ono gentleman was elected who had not paid his rates v If this was the case, the election of such person was illegal and contrary to the Municipal Ordinance. It is also said that the same gentleman sat at the Council tab\e and voted for a motion to the effect that an advertisement be iuaerfced in the " Runstan Tunes," stating that all rates unpaid on the sth SepiQnber should be sued for. Query: Are those rates pa,id yet? If the rumor above referred to is correct, I would reooimneQd the gentleman to tender his resignation. — I am, <&c, Batepateb. Alexandra, September 25, 1873 L
