Telegraphic Despatches.
Wellington, September 17. The Upper House last evening threw out the Otago Land Bill,, which provided that 100,000 acres should be opened jyearly under deferred payments.' instead of being limited to 30,000 acres, as at present. A bill has been introduced enabling immigrants paying their own passage to receive free grants of land of the value of £20. The. Assembly is very much dissatisfied with the immigration management of Dr. Featherstone. The Government refuses to disclose all the correspondence that has taken place between the Agent General and themselves on immigration. The Wellington "Independent," this morning, strongly censures the conduct of the Government in this matter. Mr. Yogel has just addressed the House, offering to produce the missing correspondence if a majority of the House so desires it. The Assembly will likely be prorogued next week. The Governor visita Otago on the first week in December.
