UPPER WAIKAIA.
(From our ovm Correspondent. ) This place is increasing in importance daily, as not only Duigan and Duncan have bottomed another extraordinarily rich paddock, but the next claim below Boyle^and Matheson have struck wonderfully rich gold — fully an ounce to the dish. The season being nearly ovpr, they will not benefit by this discovery for fivo or weeks, the usual duration of the floods. They are now walling off and preparing for future operations. Several attempts have, I understand, been made to purchase the ground just taken up hv Messrs. Etching & Co. and Duigan & Co., as another auriferous creek discharges just above their boundary. There is no doubt this is a valuable property, and will amply remunerate its spirited proprietors. A gentleman from Mt. Benger has being paying us a visit, and various rumors are current as to his mission. I trust he will bring some of our wants before the public, particularity the need of a good, track through the bush. Bryant and Macleod are on the edge of the deep ground, and in another week expect to be on gold. The "Whitecotnbe is contributing its quota to the revenue — in fact, I bear no complaints, which is aatisfap^ory.
