ALEXANDRA SCHOOL.
(To the Editor.) Sib,— Having seen nothing lately from your correspondent " A Mother," I have thought it necessary to call attention to her favorite subject. In the first place, I must give *' A Mother" credit for trying to provoke a reply from either the schoolmaster or the School Committee. But having failed to do so, she appears to have taken a higher flight, a^d endeavored to provoke a reply from the Inspector of Schools (Mr. Hislop.) In that she has also failed. There are only
two ways then to sum the matter up ; either the whole of them cousider *' A Mother's " effusions so much twaddle, or her statements cannot be contradicted. I leave the matter to stand at that, as it is not my purpose just now to question the statements made in her letters. Ifc is now something over two years since Vincent Pyke, Esq., gave a lecture at Alexandra, the proceeds of which were to be handed over to some of the Jadie3 of Alexandra, for the purpose of purchasing fancy work, &c, &c., for the use of the girls attending the Alexandra school ; and, if I am correctly informed, Mr. Chappie took the management of the lecture, collected "the money, &6., and handed the proceeds over to one or two of the mothers at Alexandra (it being somewhere about £7 stg ) The mothers at the time intimating that when the fancy work was completed, a bazaar would be held and the work submitted to competition, for the purpose of placing themselves in funds for re-purchases. Nothing of the sort has yet been done, although it has come to my knowledge that Jots of this fancy work is completed, and among the lot a very handsome pair of slippers — in fact, the said pair of slippers have been no much talked about that if nut sold shortly, some of people will be troubled with " Slippers on the Brain." Further, lam of opinion that it is almost time mothers should render some account of their stewardship. lam not aware whether I have hit the nail on the head ; if so, " A Mother " will have another opportunity of appearing in print. — I am, &c, A Fathbk.
