CORRESPONDENCE.

ROXBURGH PERSONAL FEUDS. (To the Editor.) Sir, — Permit me -to thank you for the postscript which you appended to a letter signed "G. Mackay," which appeared in your paper a week or two ago Not only myself but many other readers of and subscribers to your journal were surprised that the two gentlemen who for some weeks past have been trying to throw snuff into the eyea of the discerning and thinking portion of the readers of the Tuapeka Times, had not shown better taste, if they had not better sense, than to attempt, through the columns of a public journal, to show any personal pique or spleen they may entertain towards each other. It appears that for some years past an apparently interminable feud has existed between Mr. John Beighton and Mr. G. Mackay, and the recent election seems to have afforded them an excuse to rush into print, and by this means give vent to their pent-up feelings. But, Sir, 1 would ask either of them, why intrude their petty squabbles on the notice of the general public (I mean ths readers of your paper), the majority of whom, I am aure, neither know nor care whether Mr. B. is right and Mr. M. wrong, or Mr. B. wrong and Mr. SI. right. The correspondence has been very interesting, but has been mixed up with too much personal abuse, and was getting rather hot — in fact it was becoming dangerous ; and as you, Sir, have more than once had to apologise to your readers for not being able to find room for the usual amount of local and general news, which the majority of your readers (who take no interest in personal fends) expect, and have a right to expect, to find in your columns, you were perfectly justified iv putting a stop to it. I will just add that many of my friends here hail with delight the announcement made in your last that it is your intention to issue your paper twice a week. This, I feel certain, will more than double the number of your subscribers here, and I for one will do my best to add to their number. Wishing you every success — I am, &c, A Lookbr-on. Teviot, August 20, 1873.
