Telegraphic Despatches.

Wellington, August 20. A caucus of Otago and Canterbury members met to-day — thirty present ; Mr. Tolmie, ,' convener. The object of the meeting was stated to be the protection of the railway interest and land fund of the Middle Island from the rapacious interference of the General Government ; but tho real object appears to bo to secure the power of selling large blocks of land by the provinces. The meeting appointed a committee of six, consisting of Macandrew, Tolmie. Reid, Rolleston. Studholme, and Reeves, to confer and draft resolutions to be submitted at the next meeting.
