Fourteen hundred bushels of Oregon barley sold for New Zealand at full rates. Shoobridge's hops. 13d to lSd. Sugars improving 1 Yellows, L 36;3 6; grainy grey, L3B 10s. Brandies are advancing; MartelTs dark and Hennessy's, 725 ; pale, 7s 3d. Sydney, July 22. — Teas are lower. There have been large sales of bulk ale. Coarse salt, 745. Bank discount, one per cent, on London. Advices from California via Sydney, under date May 9th, quote flour at 4^ to o^dol: wheat, Idol 90c ; feed barley, Idol 17c to Idol 25c ; brewing barley, Idol 30c to Idol 40c ; oats, 2dol 20p. Coals are dull of sale. Adelaide, July 22.-10,000 bushels of wheat were sold afloat at 5s 10d. The exports of cereals for the half year were valu«d at L 1,300,000 sterling. The quantity exported during the year was 131,000 tons. A private telegram from California says the surplus crop for export is 6,000,000 centals.

A fire broke out jon the 22nd in the portion of the Immigration Barracks at Caversham known as the northern wash-house, which was totally destroyed, it having been necessary to pull it down, in order to prevent the flames spreading to the main building. To defective flues in the wash-house fireplace the origin of the fire is said to be traceable One of the immigrants had been washing till nearly five o'clock, and she asserts that her husband afterwards helped to put out the fire, by pouring water upon it. During the day workmen were employed in pulling down the flues in the wash-house ac the southern end, with a view to their being rebuilt. The fire was first noticed by two immigrants, who were standing at the washhouse. They at once gave the alarm, and turned on the watercojks, besides throwing buckets of water on the flames. Several of the Caversham residents were quickly on the spot, and assisted in preventing the spread of the fire. The Fire Brigade, with a small engine, were also quickly on the scene, intelligence of the fire having been conveyed to town by Mr Chaplin,— Star.
