WAITAHUNA PLOUGHING MATCH.

(By our Special Reporter.) The "Waitahuna ploughing match was beld on Friday last, on Mr. Cook's farm, near the old township, and was a very good piece of land for the purpose, being on a gentle slope, and the ground itself was in tolerably fair condition for the work. Notwithstanding the un propitious state of the weather, and it was sufficiently bad to deter any but "jolly young watermen" from attending, the attendance of spectators and competitors was very good, the teams numbering thirteen in the two classes. The work done was on the whole very good, although there was a general complaint that in the result as declared by the judges the rule as advertised with regard to false cut was not strictly adhered to. This question of false cut appears to be a moot point amongst ploughmen, and to the uninitiated the talk amongst the defeated as well as the victors is as Sanscrit, or any amount of books ahead of Euclid. The result, however, in this match was that a protest by Messrs. Stewart, Drysdale and another was lodged against the decision of the judges, on the ground that the rule "No false cut allowed " was not strictly adhered to. The secretary, in giving the decision of the judges, stated that all the prize-takers used cut more or less. This was with some considerable show of reason argued as unfair against those competitors who entered the field with plain irons, and it would be satisfactory if some general rule could be laid down for the future guidance of ploughmen.
