WASTE LAND BOARD.

Thursday, July 17. The Waste Land Board met to-day. Present—the Commissioner in the chair ; Messrs Strode, Bastings, Butterworth, and Clark. Messrs Detort and Darrell's application, for a quarry license at Lawrence, was referred to the Corporation of Lawrence for advice. John Porteous's application, to have section 66, block 1, Waikouaiti, again advertised for sale, was declined. Mr Dairy mple's application, fora rehearing in Robinson's case, was appointed for this day fortnight. Richard Craigie's application, to purchase thirty acres at Clarendon, was refused. H. Howorth's application, to present a memorial against A. Mollison's request being granted for purchase of Bush Reserve, Clarendon, was postponed for the Ranger's report. Gillies and Street's application, for an occupation license for Peter Dunbar in the Papakaio district, was refused. Robert Ferguson's application, to purchase a peninsula (two acres) on the Tokomairiro River, was granted at LI per acre, to complete property. P. Field's application to purchase residence at Naseby, transmitted and approved by the District Land Officer, was granted. Applicant to make survey and to be sold by auction with improvements. Upset price, L2O per acre. A coal mining lease was granted to Kennedy and Robertson, Cromwell, subject to the runholder's consent. Purves and Dawkins's application for a slaughter-yard on sections 2 and 3, block 1, Cromwell, was granted, subject to the runholder's consent. W. H. Goodall's application to purchase 100 acres for agricultural purposes on Loughnan'i run was referred to the District Land Officer. W. H. Cox's complaint that unlicensed sheep were depastured on Waipori commonage, was referred to the Government. The protest of the Mount Ida Miners' Association against the sale of auriferous land was read. The following applications to purchase under agricultural lease regulations were approved:—John Blair, 36 and 37, block 1, Tuapeka East ; Richard Campbell, 33, 89, 53, and 24, block 7, Shotover. In answer to questions by Dr. Menzies, the Board would grant licenses to purchasers of land subsequent to Ist December, 1872. No ■pecial instructions had been given to .Rangers in case of unlicensed persons running stock en Hundreds, but they were expected to do their duty as prescribed in section 129, Otago Waste Lands Act, 1872. G. F. Reid'a application for John Herbert for ft license to occupy section 5, block 5,

Green vale District, was referred to the Government. G. F. Reid's application for unsurveyed land at Balclutha, for David Doull, was declined. The consideration of Mr Elliott's question on behalf of Colonel Kitchener, why land at Moeraki shonld not be put up for sale, was postponed.
