DEAR SIR, — It having come to our knowledge that some evil-disposed person is industriously circulating in the Tuapeka district a false report (evidently for the purpose of injuring you in your business) that you have been doing all in your power to injure or stop the construction of the Lawrence branch of the Railway, we have much pleasure in being able to contradict said false report, knowing that you could not possibly .have in any way by word or actß opposed the construction of the line referred to without our knowledge. We make this contradiction of our own accord, and leave it to your own option to make such use of it as you may think proper. In fact we are quite ignorant of any agitation having taken place here about the line referred to, and we are fully aware that the branch line to Lawrence would be a great benefit to your business. SIR, — I have paid to the District Surveyor the sum required for the survey of the following Gold Mining Lease Application, as required by the Mining Leases Regulations of Otago ; and I agree that, upon the approval of this application, I will execute a lease upon the bases therein stated, if the Governor shall think fit to grant the same. Waipori, comprising 30 acres, or thereabout ; and that the said application will be heard at the Warden's Office, Lawrence, on May 28.
