ROXBURGH.

(From our own Correspondent.) A certain sum of money was voted, and not before it was needed, for repairs to the road between Eoxburgh and Manuherikia ; but the way in which part of that money is being expended is a mere farce. The length of road is 28 miles, and two men were appointed to patch it up the best way they could. One of the two has now been removed to some other road, thus leaving one man to repair and keep good one of the most important roads in the province — a road on which the traffic is daily increasing. During the coming winter it will in many places be quite impassible. Mining matters are progressing fairly. The river is keeping low, allowing all the river claims to be worked. The Chinamen have commenced to cradle on the beach at the Teviot junction. The Fourteen-mile Beach Co. have sold 600 shares. They seem to keep their meetings strictly private. Tenders are called for a drive of 100 feet. lam imforraed that the report of Mr. J. P. Michell and Mr. M. E. Manuel, the gentlemen chosen as competent quartz miners to examine and report on the claim, have reported favorably. The cockatoos are pretty well advanced with their threshing, and all seem pleased with their various returns. The gentleman who has occupied the position of postmaster and telegraphist during the last two years, *o the entire satisfaction of the residents in Mount Benger, is about to leave. His numerous friends are going to present him with an address and a handsome gift before leaving, as a token of the esteem in which he is held by them for the very obliging and attentive manner shown by him in the discharge of his duties. A large number of gentlemen, including the leading members of the place, waited upon Mr. Fearon, and pre sented him with the following address, accompanied with a tangible proof of their good wishes for his success :—: — To C. D. Fearon, Postmaster and Telegraphist, "Roxburgh. Sir. — We, the undersigned residents of Roxhurgh, having heard with regret of your intended departure from the district, beg to express to you our appreciation of the very efficient way in which you have discharged your duties as telegraphist and postmaster during the past two years, and of the kind, obliging, and attentive manner always shown by you in the discharge of such duties ,• and we desire your acceptance of the accompanying "memento," which- we trust you will look, upon as a small token of the respect and esteem in which you are held by your wellwishers and friends in the Mount Benger district. — We remain, dear sir, yours truly. [Here f/)'lows the signatures of 40 residents.] Thei*e will be a meeting of the Ploughing Match Committee held at the Roxburgh Ferry Hotel on Saturday evening, the 13th of April.

Ulcerous Sores. — A poor man namod Mackey, of Cape Town, Cape of Good Hope, had several ulcerou* soroa on his body, and two on his lesj, which rendered him a most miserable object, and frequently deprived him of the" means of earning his daily bread : he ohtainod adviop from some very eminent medicet men, but he did not get any better. However, finally lie pur hased a qmntity of Ho'.lowiy's Ointment and Pills, and commenced using^tbem ; he persevered with these remedies for only nine weeks, when, to tiie astonishment of one, the ulcers had entirely disappeared, leaving aoarcely a soar perceptible, after 19 years of licuto suffering. These famous medicines will cure old wounds) even of 30 years standing,
