Richardson's b m Awatea, 3 yrs; 7st (Malone) 0 After one false start, Mr. M'Lean managed to get his horses well a<vay, Burgundy in the inside, taking the lead, closely followed by Empress. At the coalpit, the former resigned his position in favor of the Empress, and retired to the rear. Wildboy now showed well forward, Hatred pressing close on him. Descending the hill, Wildboy and- Malice, who had been kept well in hand, but now were coming up swiftly, overhauled the exDuchess, and at the cricket field the Boy had assume^ the lead. Malice hotly contesting second place. Entering the straight, Malice had beaten Empress, and endeavored to dispossess Wildboy "of his lead, but unsuccessfully. Wildboy came in first by two lengths, the same distance separating the second and third. Hack Eace, of £20 soys : 1 mile heats, Confined to horses being the $ona fide property of the person entering ' same at least one month prior to February 20, 1873, and residing within 20 miles of Lawrence. Tamborini was cantered up to the hurdle, and refusing to take it, was quietly walked into the saddling paddock. Medora leasu,rily proceeded, and at the next hurdle, being walked up to it, refused to rise, throwing off Haynes. The race was finished by Medora cantering the prescribed distance, getting over the intervening hurdles without any trouble.
