ROXBURGH.
' (From our own Correspondent.) Things are beginning to be a bit brighter up here just now. The great Teviot standby and drawback in mining, the River Molyneux, has condescended to lower herself, and seems inclined to continue doing so. All bands are now commencing work, and we are now only glad to see the pumps working alonj the banks. The cockatoos are also pushing ahead at the harvesting, and getting in all their crops. The average, I believe, is very good, and I think everything looks tolerably well. The sergeant of police received information on Friday last, that the skeleton of a man had been found close to the top of the Old Man Range. He immediately went to the place indicated, and brought in the remains., which merely consisted of flesbless bones, well bleached. There was an inquest he?d on Monday, before Mr. Burton, R.M., when the jury returned the verdict Usual in' these cas6s — that
the remains we^e found, as there was no evidence to show what name they bore when encased in living flesh. It is generally surmised that he was one of the unfortunate men lost a. bout 8 years ago in the terrible snow storm, which occurred about that time, during which some 15 or 20 men were lost. The clothes of the unfortunate man had entirely disappeared, with the exception of a very small piece of a blue jacket. Two pipes, a Irnife, match box, and half sovereign found next the remains, but no papers or any clue at all that would lead to identification. The bones were buried on Tuesday, in the cemetary. I am sorry to say we are about to loose our docter here for a short time, as he is going to Melbourne for a few weeks on, business. It is to be hoped no illness of a serious character will take place during his absence.
