BLUE SPUR.

(From. our Mining Correspondent.) Mining matters on the Spur are going on very satisfactorily. All the claims are in full work, with plenty of water. On the Munros side, Messrs. Elliot and Co. have washed away their 1 loose stuff, and are about starting to drive for another blast. Messrs. White and Co. are washing from a small blast they had the other day. The Messrs. Thomas aud Kitto had a wash-up last week from their sluicing .claim, which gave them good returns. I t

is worth noticing to show how olc^ and abandoned ground can be made to pay by systematic working after being deserted and pronounced worthless by small parties. The present proprietors started their claim some three years ago by constructing a long tailracefrom the lower end of Munros Gully, which must have cost a considerable amount both in labor and material, as a great deal of timber has been used in its construction. ' They opened a face on the bed rock and sluiced every thing from top to bottom, taking the gully on a face. The result and permanancy of their undertaking may be guessed from the comfortable way in which they have settled down in neat cottages and gardens. Further up the gully, Messrs. Varcoe, Carrey, and Co. have started to open up another claim in the same systematic manner, and, from the prospects obtained, anticipate a long profitable job. On the Gabriels side, Messss. Hales and Hinde have washed-up, after a six months run, and are driving for another blast. The Nelson Co. are also driving, and anticipate firing in a few clays. All the other claims are steadily washing. On the Gabriels reef, the North Amalgamated Prospecting Co. have now driven about 250 feet. The ground is getting very hard. The prospecting claim and battery are kept steadily going. To all appearance, all the other claims are completely abandoned as far as working is concerned ; and if no steps are taken to release the ground from being held by paying rent, it will be a Ions? time in all probability before any more reef is found.
