Naseby, January 24. Two parcels of spurious gold, valued at 127, were sold to the Bank of New South Wales on Friday last, by Ah Yuk, alias Ah Wah. After the matter was reported to the police, every exertion was made to capture him, and he was traced to Clark's, the Sowburn, and Hyde, and arrested on the road to Macrae's by Constable Rooney. The entire district, from Maerewhenua to Macraes, was scoured by the police, assisted by Mr Pyke, the bank clerk who purchased the gold. Wellington, January 24. Mr Fitzherbert has been re-elected Superintendent without opposition. Auckland, January 24. A deputation, consisting of the Hon. Mr Williamson, Messrs Newman, Gibbons, Mae- ' farlane, Isaacs, Aitken, and others, had an interview with the Superintendent to-day, , and urged him to promote the navigation of the Waikato, a railway from the Thames to Waikato, the extension of the Kaipara line ■ to Auckland, increased immigration, and \ other subjects. They expressed a belief that the delay in the execution of public works ia the Province, and the entire break-down of immigration was entirely owing to the Superintendent's action. The Superintendent replied that the fault was with the Colonial, and not the Provincial Government, and that he i had urged the matters referred to on the Minister for Public Works ; that the navigation of the Waikato was being improved, the Kaipara Railway extension being surveyed, Mdtaat be h,*d pntlo-ied. the Proven.-
