TUAPEKA HOSPITAL.

The first monthly meeting of the navr Committee of the above institution was held in the Commercial Hotel on Tuesday evening. The President, (Vincent Pyke, Esq.), occupied the chair. The following members uf Committee were present — Messrs Walker, Arbuckle, Meavs, Armstrong, Jeffery, Hills, Harrop, Ferguson, and Hayes, (Secretary). The resident surgeon was also present. I The minutes of the last meeting of the old Committee, were read and coutirmed. ' The Secretary read copy of a letter he had forwarded as instructed, to Mrs. Smith, tenderer for the snpply of meat to the institution. Mrs. Smith in her letter, stated that she could not, owing to the rise in prices, continue to supply meat at 2d per lb., and wished to be relieved from her contract or be allowed to charge 3d per lb. Mr. Ferguson moved that fresh tenders be called for tho snpply ox meat, but the motion di 1 noi, receive a seconder. The Secretary's letter informed Mrs. Smith that her tender, accepted at the meeting of the 31st December, is tho one now recoguisod for the supply of meat to June t>o. The outgoing correspondence was then approved of. Dr. Stewart referred to an informality in the manner in which the tendeis for drugs hud been lodged — one being deposited in the tender b.>x, and the other at the Secretary's office. He wished the Committee to. say whether he should open the one received by the Secretary. Mr. Mears said as tenders had not been called through the press, the Secretary's office should be considered quito as legal a place for depositing the tenders referred to, as the tender box at the Hospital. On a division there were 4 for the amendment, and 2 against it. The Surgeon's report for the month, whioh was laid on the table, showed an increase in the number of patients, the r.umber now in the Hospital being 18. The report was received and adopted. Only 2 out-door patients had been treated duriug the month. Mr. Hari'op moved that tke Secretary be instructed to write to the Government to-morrow, requesting immediate paynaent of the subsidy due, (L2&S), and informing them of the numerous tradesmens "accounts due by the institution, and which require to be- paid. Mr Hills seconded. Carried. The Surgeon drew the attention of the Committee to the chronic patients in the Hospital, who, he thought, might be removed to the Duuedin Hospital. There
