XNITSS'S COD LIVER OIL, PORT CHALMERS. rjiHE Manufacturer of this now cele- ■*■ brate.d.Cod Liver Oil, with a knowledge that however encouragem ent to nati ve industry may be lauded, felt that the fact of its being of local manufacture would alone create a prejudice against it, and determined to defer placing his Oil ! prominently before the public until analyses by the best authorities in the Colony, and the result of trials by eminent medical practitioners in New Zealand, had indisputably proved that his "Cod Liver Oil cannot be excelled by any imported Oils for Curative Tower, Genuineness, Purity, Strength, and all the essential requirements of a Therapeutic Agent. Innes's Cod Liver Oil possesses the following distinctive characteristics :—: — 1. l£a genuineness, purity, & strength ; will b.e seen from the analyses of Dr. Hector and Professor «J» '" G. Black. 2. It contains all the essential prin- • cipleji that therapeutic experience has found to be most effectual in cases of Consumption, Diseases of the Chest, Debility, Prostration, Emaciation, &c. (>. It is palatable, can be taken and ! retained by the most delicate stomach, and creates no nausea. 4. Its medicinal properties and remedial powers are proved by the subjoined indisputable tests. 5. Numerous instances of the rapidity of its curative effects can be i addaced in Otago. 6. Its local manufacture admits of its being sold at a cheaper rate than the imported oils. Extract from analysis of Dr. Hector, forwarded to his Honor the Superintendent of Otago ; — "I have the konor to inform you that the Oil prepared by Mr. Innes of Port Chalmers from fish livers has been further examined, in compliance with your request of tliQ 4th ult. lodine exists in both samples of the oil in rather ■ higher proportions than in Langton and Scott's, which is a favorite brand. The usual amount of iodino in Cod. Liver Oil is l-20th per cent. The Cod Liver Oil in the market varies in density from - 915 to 929 Imie3's Steaicod Oil is - 928 Boiled „ - 927 Both samples appear to be thoroughly sound and free from matters that might in time render it rancid. " I would recommend Mr. Innes's notice to the preparation of the watery extract from the fish livers, which is stated to contain all* the curative powers of the oil except those that depend on its nourishing properties. 28 pounds of liver, which yield 12 pounds of oil, will [ give 1 pound of watery ijnid, which, on being evaporated; yields 2 oz. of extract ; 5 grains of the extract are equal in effect to half an ounce of the oil. "I have, &c, (Signed) " Jambs Hector." Copy of analysis of Professor James G. Black, University, Dunedin :—: — "I have analysed a sample of Cod Liver Oil forwarded by Mr. Innes uf Port Chalmers. This Oil, expressed from the fresh liver of the Lptella Bacchus — one of the Gadiial, or true cods— is prepared and bottled by Mr. Junes with j due attention -to parity and cleanliness. In these respedts it bears favorable comparison with other similar preparations ,now in the market— Langton'a, De Jongh's, &c. * " The specific gravity of this oil ia 0927 " Percentage of glycerine - 910 " Oleic acid - 72* approximately " Margaric acid - - - 15" '•It 'behaves well with such tests as sulphuric acid, caustic potash, aqua.regia } &c., &c. " I have great pleasure in recommending it as above. (Sigued) "James G. Black, Analyst." One of the be3t tests (by results)-of + he curative properties of Innes's Cod .Liver Oil is the faqt of its being highly recommended by Dr. Hulme (Provincial Surgeon), and.. Drs. Hocken, Burns, and Borrows, of Dunedin. This Oil has also been most favorably noticed by the.Medical Society of Victoria, and received honorable mention at the Auckland Exhibition, 1872, Sold in Half-pinta, Pints, and Quarts, with Manufacturer's Signature on Label, without which none can be genuine.
