On thi? 16th msr-a>it a hor3e wirh asiddie, but whit-iit a. hriale, was found by soraa persons o> Slid bulks of the Maiuu'fd. r.vcr, and vtas reC'sjni3ed as the pr.j-'p-.'i-ty of a shepherl iii ilia employ of I'-\j\ M'Ka'i, Kiiapdale. named M'Phevson. ivJ'Pherson. it was ascertained, has been missing from his huine since the 3rd instant, but no very pressing inquiries as to his whereabouts appe.ir to huTtj been instituted ; in fact no alarm eaariis to hav=s been created by his prolonged absence, and the idea that some mishap might have occurred to Mm appears to have bten originated only upon the nnding of the horsy. Various conjectures and. rumors are afloat, but the most probable solution of the mystery is that; the mi&sing man has beon accidentally drowned in the Mataura river. The poiice avo actively searching .for traces of M'Pherson, but tip to the time uf our writing jiothing definite as to his fute'iias be<jn discovered.
