CORRESPONDENCE.

CHINESE INTERPRETING. J To the Editor.) Sir, — In yesterday's issue of the " Bruce Herald," I observe that the Tuapeka Correspondent of that journal in his account of the Governor's reception at the Chinese Camp on Saturday last, says, " that the reply to the address presented on our behalf by Mr. King, was given in very good English by His Excellency, but interpreted info very bad Chinese by a self-constituted medium." As this directly refers to myself. I wish to say that oh His Honor the Superintendent suggesting to His Excellency the advisability of having his reply interpreted. I was immediately asked by him to do so; aud I have yet to learn hiwthe correspondent of the " Bruce He raid " is enabled to judge when the English language is rendered into good or bad Chinese. I am told he is somewhat acquainted with French, but I think he knows nothing of Chinese, and that the appellation pf selfconstituted medium is, in this case, far mure applicable to himself. I may t say that my countrymen were flattered by His Excellency's visit t<» th°ir ca«np, and did the best they could on the short notice to welcome him and Lady Bowen. By inserting the above in your next issue, you will oblige, yo t ir&. tru'y, Chaelks Ah Fikg.
