There has been more wheat offering this week. Holders of lots are now aware thai there is little prospect of higher rates bging'ofr tamed, and they wish to quit. Several samples of [irime have changed hands at 5s 9d and Si lOd ; second-class wheat cannot be placed ; fovl .wheat is scarce. In cats, transactions have become extremely light ; there are no buyers for export, and millers' requirements at this season of the year are always limited ; feeding remain at 2s ; milling, 2s Bd. No barley : quotationsmalting, 6s 6d ; inferior, 5s to 5s 3d. Flour is. in first-rate demand, especially towards the end of the week. Prices are unaltered, Ll4 to Ll4 10s; second-class, LlO 10s to Lll 1C& ' Brjiii scarce, IA. Pollard, L 5 10s. Oatmeal dull, HI 10s. Pearl barley, L 24. Potatoes-old un* saleable, at L 2; new crop, U5. Hay, L3 lss. Straw, L 2 ss. Chaff, L3 lss. A. Mbbcer reports, for the week ending 4th January. 1873 — Fresh butter, in £lb and Ub prints, best quality, 8d to 9d ; second quality, 7d per lb ; fresh butter in lumps, 6d to 7d ; powdered and salt do, 8d ; for salt butter in kogs, 7d is asked, but sales have not generally been made. Cheese is getting more plentiful, but really good samples are scarce. Best quality, 9d ; second do, 7d to tid. English hams, Is id to Is 6d per lb ; Colonial do, Is to Is Id per lb ; side and rolled bacon, 9d to lOd per lb. Eggs are very scarce, and Belling at li2d per <10»n,|4
