WASTE LAND BOARD.
A meeting of the Waste Land Board was held at, the Provincial Buildings Dec. 31st. ThereVere present Messrs Tolmie, Duncan, Hughes, and Thomson. Mr Arch. Vallentine was granted a license for fifty acres of land at Hawkesbury, to be used as a quarry. Mr Begg, on behalf of Mr D. Clark, applied to purchase sections 12 and 11, block 10, Waitahuna East, granted by the Board on the 11th January, 1871, but not paid for within the time fixed The Board ordered that the applicant should make a fresh application to purchase. The following applications to purchase lands held under agricultural leases were considered and approved : G. Clark, section 12, block 19, Tuapeka Easij ; H. Cameron, section 3, block 2, Tuapeka East ; M. iliggins, section 24, block 5, Waitahuna East; F. Ouddille, sections 1 and 4, block 7, Waitahuna Eist; D. Mao.donald. section 41. block 2, Tuapeka Bast ; Jpld Elder, 17 and 18. block 1, Berenger district"; J. Butel, 13, block 7, and 49, block 6. S'hotover; P. Butel, 68. block 7, and 42. block 6, Shotover; Ross and Hullenstein, 18, 19. and 20, block 7. Shotover; F. Hammond, 13, block 5, Waitahuna East; D. Clark, 8 and 35, block 10, Waitahuna East; J. Douglas, 48 and 105. block 3 Sbotover; Robertson and Ross, 74. 8, 75 and 18. block 4 and 73 to 80 inclusive, block 1, 76 block 4, 134 to 137 inclusive, block 1, and 15, block 4, Shotover; J. Braden, 109, 110, 116, 117. 118 and 119 block 1, Shotover; D. Maitland. 31, block 3, Tuapeka East; J. Smith, 2, block 7, Waitahuna West. A notice under 124 clause of Otago Waste Land Act, 1866, frnm J. D. Feraud, requiring j the Board to cancel his lease and pay compensation for. improvements effected ©n sections 33 to 40, block 2, Leaning Rock, was referred to the Government. The sale of sections 12 to 22, 25 to 34, | block 4, Sutton district, and sections 1 to 7, block in same locality, amounting to 1,924 acres already surveyed into sections of from 50 to 127 acres, was approved. Sir F. D Bell requested that the reserve should be removed from sections 35, 36, and 40, Waihemo, and 11. 12. 13, 14, 17, 18, and 51, Dunback district. The matter was referred to the Warden of the district The consideration of objections to the issue of a lime burning license to John Nelson, Kapiti, granted on 9th October, 1872, was postsjoued. An application, made by the Hon. R. Campbell, to amend plan of survey as per sketch submitted, -vras granted on the same condition as the original application. Messrs W. and J. Sanders applied for Mr Campbell's original application was for 10 '0 acres, and was opposed on the . ground that a portion of it was auriferous. The applicant now proposed to abandon ab>ut 5300 acres of original application supposed to be auriferous, and take up an equal area lying south of Black Hill and Trig. Station H". and bounded by the Waitaki and Ofcaak rivers. Messrs W. and J. Sanders applied for authority to purchase °00 acres on run 206, to secure their homestead. Referred to Warden of the district. Mr Watson Shennan apolied for a lease of coal area on Douglass and Co.'s run, with the runholders' consent. The application was granted, the conditions being L 5 per annum for 5 acres, and the coal to be delivered at the pit's mouth at 15s per ton. Mr Tolmie applied for an extension of time for the surveyof section 7, block 2, Waipahi district. Granted.
