The petitions for the dissolution of the Assembly begin to assnme great proportions, both in Paris and from the Provinces. A manifesto, issued from the Left, is extremely moderate in tone : it bears the signatures of Gambetta, Louis Blanc, and Cr^mieux. It demands a pacific dissolution as the only means of averting danger, and strongly disapproves of any pressure brought to bear by enemies of order. The signataries express themselves as desiTous of supporting M. Thiers, as a means of establishing Republican institutions. The Eight petition the Assembly to remain inviolable agaiast any attack which would be an attack upon universal suffrage. December 12. The Assembly agreed to discuss the petitions for dissolution on Saturday. M. Thiers disclaims any leaning towards the Right. Madrid, "December 13. An insurrection broke out at Madrid, but was suppressed, with a loss of twenty killed and wounded in the melee with the troops. The Spanish loan of ten millions has been twice covered. Berlin, December 14. Baron Von Roon, Minister of War, has resigned, and it is also reported that Prince Bismarck intends to resign Lis Premiership devoting himself exclusively to the duties of the Chancellorship. i # London, December 14. An income tax league has been formed in London, with the view of preventing any increase of the tax. Peaceful negotiations between Brazil and the Argentine Confederation have taken place, by which the latter evacuate Paraguay. New Zealand Consolidated Fives are at 102f. JNew Zealand flax is at L2B to L4O. Tallow is dull. Sperm oil is at LOO. Wheat is easier. Paris, December 14. A stormy debate took place in the Assembly to-day. On the petitions being presented in favour of a dissolution, Gambetta declared that it was the desire of the country that there should be a dissolution ; and when the feeling became universal, as he asserted it would, their position would be invincible. a long and animated discussion, the Assembly decided to set aside tbe petitions for a dissolution, by a majority of 420 against 201, by passing to the onlers of the day.
