Breadstuffs and grain are unaltered. Good brands in flour have a first-class sale at LI4 to Ll4 los. The stocks in town are low. laf erior flour has a very limited demand, and sales are made from Llo los to Lll 10s. Bran stocks are light, in consequence of the small quantity of wheat being ground, the value continues at L 4. Pollard quiet at L 5 10s. Oatmeal, Ml 10s; no inquiry. Milling wheat is not in better supply. A few hundred bags were offered at auction yesterday as milling wheat ; the quality, however, was very indifferent, and the greater portion was passed. The best lots in the parcel brought 58 6d, and some of the inferior lands were sold as low as 3s lOd. Prime samples are worth, in Dunedin, 5s 7d to 5s lOd. A large quantity of second-class wheat has been offered this week, but sales have not generally been made. Wheat suitable for second-class flour isworth 4s to 4s 3d. Oats dull at 2s to 2s 2d« Barley— Malting, 6s 6d ; feeding, 5s to 5s 3d. Potatoes— Old crop are not in sale, and the highest price obtainable is L 2; this crop maybe quoted at about Lls. Straw, L2 los. Hay, L 4. Chaff, L 4. A. Meroer reports for the week ending December 28th, retail prices only :— Fresh butter, in A lb and 1 lb prints, best quality 8d to 9tL second quality 7d per Id; fresh butter, in lumps, bd to 7d, powdered and salt do, &L There is still a good supply of butter in the market, although many of the farmers prefer salting it down, expecting better priesc s at tho fall of the season. For salt butter in kegs there is no demand for good samples, 7d is asked and the market is pretty well stocked. Cheese is getting more plentiful, hut really good samples are scarce. Best quality, 9d ; second do, 7d to Bd. English hamß, Is 4d to Is 6d per lb. Side and rolled bacon, 8d to 9d per lb. There is a. good supply of eggs in the market selling at 1» id per dozes, but a foil in the price is expected,.
