Clyde, December 17.

An indignation meeting was held here last night, regarriing the action of the Waste L>nds Board, in selling land in the Wai-keri-keri Valley, which blocks up the outlet for tailings fo r the whole valley, The meeting was the largest htlil here for some years. Considerable excitement prevails on thu subject, and a deputation to the Government leave by to-morrow's coach. Another telegram says about seventy persons were present at the meeting which passed a vote of no confidence in the Executive, and characterised the sale as the grossest job ever perpetrated. By the ,sale thousands of acres of highly auriferous land are closed against the sluiuera, and it was urged that the Government were awAi'ft of the fact.

Christqhurch, December 17. The twenty-second anniversary of tbe province, yesterday, was the moat successful ever celebrated. The Governor opened the kxliibition with great eclat in tbe presence cf an immense concourse. Tbe exhibits are very good, considering tbe short time allowed for their preparation. His Excellency was pveaeiit at the anniversary sports, at which there were 10,000 spectators. The ball to the Governor last night, the Opera, and every place of amusement in the city was crowded to excess. The exhibits at the Interprovincial Exhibition are less numerous than was desired ; but the short time allowed for their preparation accounts for it. Flax from Otago, Canterbury, Auck and. Marlborough, and Wellington is splendidly represented, making the best department in the Exhibition. Wool from Canterbury and Otago only is, represented ; the exhibits, while not numerous, are very fine. In timber there is a magnificent display, tbe North Island being well represented; also Canterbury and Otago, Machinery and carriages are poorly represented. <>f woollen manufactured goods. Burns and Co., of the Mosgiel Mills, send a splendid variety ; WeWey, of Nelson, ;Uso contributes tweeds. There is a fine show of preserved meats from Canterbury and Auckland. Kauri gum, glue wines, cordials, and beers, sprits from the Dun< j diu Distillery, manufactures in native woods, chee-e and butter, are all well represented; minerals make a remarkably fine show ; also building stone. There is a large display of grain from Canterbury and Otago, the samples exhibited being magnificent. Greymouth, December 18. Mr Edward Masters has been elected Mayor.
