The Supreme Court sat to-.da^. The calendar was light. Majafca, Te Eooti's •' butcher," was tried for the murder of a scout in, 1868. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, but recommended him to mercy, on the ground' of the great dread the Natives had of Te Kooti at that time. Sentence of death was passed. ■ ■

The Opera Company played to a large house last night, and left at midnight for the South in the Wellington. Arrived — Claud Hamilton, from the South.
The Governor and Lady Bowen proceed South in the Luna on Thursday. The Claud Hamilton sails for the West Coast at noon to-morrow.
December 11. A special sitting of the Court of Appeal was held this morning. In re Maclean and others v. Macandrew, the Court held that they had nothing to do but to give leave to appeal on the usual terms. The AttorneyGeneral said the appellants were willing to give security to refund costs if the appeal were allowed, which offer Mr Ollivier, for the respondents, accepted. Sailed — Claud Hamilton, for Nelson; Rangatira, for Napier.
.Napier, December 10. The B»m Pair to be held here in February promises to be a great success. Between 700 and 800 entries have already been made. Lyttelton, December 10. Arrived— Wellington. Sailed— Wellington, for the South. Auckland, December 11. The Wonga Wonga arrived from Sydney to-day, having left there on December 5.
