No change has taken place in grain pr in breadstuffs. The supply of wheat appears |p have quite run out. and the millers in town have almost ground up all their stocks. Prime lots are worth as 9d ; second class, 4s 3d. "in oats little is doing ; there is no disposition to ship, and the demand is confined to town trade wants ; milling are worth 2s 2d ; feeding, 2%. No barley. Potatoes can scarcely be quoted, as there is not a market for them ; sales of old crop are made from L2to L 3 10s, The demand for flour is brisk. Millers are not pushing sales, as their stocks are light, and possibly an ad. vance may be obtained in the course of a fortnight. The value at present remains at Ll4 to LI4 10s. For second class the inquiry is fair at Lll. Bran is not overstocked, and the market "wiU soon be cle^r altogether — TLA ; pollard* 1.0 10s ; oatmeal dull. Lll 10s ; pearl barley, L 24; hay, L 4; straw, L2 los.
A. Mercer reports, for the week ending December 14 : Retail prices only — Fresh butter, in Alb and lib lumps, best quality, 8d to 9d per lb ; prints, best quality, 8d to 9d per lb ; second quality, 7d per lb ; fresh butter in lumps, 6d to 7d ; powdered and salt butter, Bd. The market is still overstocked with fresh butter, although many of the dairy farmers are salting it down, with the expectation of getting better prices at the fall of the season. There is no demand for salt butter in kegs, and a great quantity in the market. For good samples 7|d to 7M is asked. Jheese is getting more plentiiful, hut really good samples are scarce. Best quality, 9d ; second qualify, Yd to Bd. English hams, Is 4d to Is 6d per lb ; Colonial hams, Is per lb. Side and rolled bacon, 8d to 9d per lb.
