OUR BLACKS CORRESPONDENT.
(To the. Editor.)
Sir, — Tn your issue of the 14th instant your Blacks Correspondent holds out a threai to the Ophir Progress Committee, which T think is premature and uncalled for. He says, "If that body does not keep up to the mark, he will show them no mercy." Allow me to inform your correspondent that the Progruss Committee have entered upon their duties with a view of forwarding the interests of the district generally. They are not acquainted with what his ideas of keeping up to the mark may be, neither do they intend to consult him on the subject. We may assure him, with a line of Sir falter Scott's, Thy threats, thy mercies I defy. In conclusion, I would advise yonr correspondent not to interfere with the doings of the Progress Committee until he finds something substantial to interfere with. By inserting this you will oblige, yours, &c, Jambs Cheeseman, Chairman Progress Committee.
