THE VOLUNTEERS.

The seventh competition for the North Dunedin Rifle Company's prize belt was completed on Tuesday last at Pelichet Bay Range, and was gained by Volunteer A. Allan, who was winner last time it was fired for ; consequently it does not change hands on the present occasion. The highest aggregate scorer in two competitions is the hoider for six months, the first of which was fired a month ago ; tbe ranges being 400, 500, and 600 yards ; five shots at each ; and the other competition as above stated - five sbots ; ranges 501), 600, and 7(io yards ; second-class targets. We give the scores of the highest live, wiio are also prizetakers : — '

A rifle match was fired this morning, at 5 a.m., at Anderson's Bay range, between the Dunedin Naval Brigade and the JNoith Dunedin ttiflcs, arising out of a challenge from the former Company. The weathtr was very -unfavorable for rifle shooting, a strong breeze blowing from the left rear during the match, notwitbsr.andi.Hy which some good scores were made, Volunteer Brown, of the Brigade, being the highest, with 45 points, and -Volunteer Douglas, of the Rilles, being next with 41. The conditions were five shots, at ranges 3UO, SUO, and 600 yards j Hythe position, at 300 yards, and any position at the other ranges ; tt imbledon targets. The following were the scores made : — NAVAL BRIGADE.

Average, 2S 4-10. KORTH DXJKEDIN RIFLE COMPLY.

Average, 30 3-10. The North Dunedin Rifles, by the above scores, won the match by 19 points, thus adding another to their victories this season.
