LAWRENCE TOWN COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the Lawrence Town Council wus held on Wednesday evening, 13- h inst. Present: The Mayor, aud Crs. Hill, Hay, Hayes, and Walker. Letters were received from Mr, Weston, asking payment of his account ; from Mr. J. S. Webb, with particulars of titles ; and from the Provincial Under-Secretary, stating that there- were no funds available for the construction of the Beaumont road. The following accounts were referred to the Finance Committee : — J. S. Webb, £2 65. ; J. S. Kelly, 16s. ; L. C. Holmes,
The application of the School Committee for the annual medal was then considered. After a discussion, Cr. Hayes moved, "That the Council give prizes to the extent of £2 25." Cr. Hay .seconded the motion. On being put, the proposer and seconder voted for the motion, and Crs. Hill and Walker against it. The Mayor gave Ms casting vote Kgainat the motion, which was therefore lost. The Mayor stated that he would give prizes at his own expense to the school. The Council then adjourned.
