The following telegram was received on board the Tararua at Queenscliff :— London, November 4. Consols, 924. Mr Roebuck, at Sheffield, eulogised the House of Lords as being the greatest safeguard the country possesses. Mr Baxter, in addressing his constituents, Baid that the ballot will n*fc cure bribery. It waß impossible to prevent voters aano'incing their votes, fceeing the efficiency of the army and navy, he asked whether the time had not arrived for a reduction of the armament.
