A COLONIAL JUBILEE.

The Melbourne Argus observes, on the proposal to hold a mustical .festival in Melbourne : — Mr Coppin has given us a rough outline of the great lnusieaLfestival which he has undertaken to organise'at the end of this year and the beginning of next. The intercolonial musical festival is to consist of seven musical tntertainments, given, as nearly as Circumstance will permit, upon the model of theTßostrin (U.S ) Jubilee. Tbesß will take place on Thursday.evening, 26th December (Boxing nightprogramme) ;7Friday evening, '27th December (Victorian night) ; Saturday, . 2Sth" December (in the afternoon for juveniles, in the evening the Kew South Wales night) ; Monday evening, 30th December (Tjaismanian night) ; Tuesday evening, 31st December (South Australian night)- Wednesday evening, Ist January, 1873 (New Year's night). Mf Coppin will, we understand, endeavour to .obtain talent ,of a representative character from eacli of the colonies above ..named. At present the local names connected with this great undertaking are those of Signor Biscaccianti, who has been retained as acting manager ; Signor Giorza, musical director 'and organist; andSignon' Susini and Cecchi, "whose names appear upon •a list of'vocalists t 'which will doubtless 1 soon grow .to' grjeater strength: Sigho'.'Gior^a, has been commissioned to' compose a> Christmas cantata, iynd an A-u^tfalnsi^n. juhjlee medal, is', now k'eing'isirnck' ion presentation to the' '•ladfesPancl assist at-.tbe first .■interooiOßial musical-festival, given i,a the Australian colonies. % wjII be seen from the foregoing that this is an undertaking of no ordinary magnitude.

A subscription " £as been- set on foot in *Rome for the purchase of an estate, called Villa Saverelli, to be offered as a national gift to General Garibaldi.
