The tone of the market is healthy, the trade in the clothing districts being sound and free from speculation, tlj&ugh the manufacturer has to contend with dearer coal : a£id dearer labor, as well as the high price of the raw material; but, taking all things into account; there is^^every 1-ap-pearance of prices "being firmly maintained, seeing that our stock must ilecessarily be very limited until the new clip comes to hand in February next.*' The expectations formed with regard to. the maintainanee of values, have apparently" been verified by the London telegram of 21st October, received per Albion via Bluff, reporting- that high rates ruled- at the beginning of the sales; and although prices receded again, they ' partially recovered at the close. At our weekly sale on Wednesday, the favorable news had the effect of pro-dncing-'keen competition, extreme' rates being obtained for all the, lots.
