WASTE LAND BOARD.
The Waste Land Board met on the 16th at noon. Present, the Chief Commissioner of Waste Lands, Messrs Duncan, Hughes, and Allan.
Protection was granted to Wjn. Elder to prospect for coal between trig G and the coast line at Waikawa harbor ; not to interfere with other applications, and in connection with Baxter's application. Connoll and Moodie's application to pnrchase part of sec. 33, block 1, Akatore, for James Mayer3, was refused. The land applied for by A. Dunkmanton was directed to be sold under clause 39. Waste Lands Act, 18(56 ; the Frofincial Engineer's report to he first obtained.
Permission to cut flax on section 4 black 9, Kaifcang'ata, was given to Thomas Bateman, without exclusive privilege. The Board directed that they could give no protection to Thos. Bowden in regard to his fencing and building on sections 1, 2, 7, block 4, Tapanui, not surveyed. Richard At 'Kay was refused any other site for a fallmnngery at Bttrick than that pointed out by the Warden. A complaint by Henry Wilson and others of closing a road by Mr M 'Arthur of Waikaka was referred to the Warden.
The appointment of Henry Connell as surveyor for Oamaru circuit was approved. The Board declined to interfere to authorise the sergeant of police to prevent trespass on the Oamaru Cricket Reserve.
A petition for a racecourse reserve near Ettrick was referred to the Government.
Alexander Grant's application to purchase 80 acres on Run 327 was recorded.
J. G Gardiner's application to purchase sections 26 and 33, block 4. Table Hill, held under agricultural leases, was referred to the Government.
Tbe Board resolved that, other qualifications being equal, in the appointment of surveyors, tho^e applicants who are not land agents should be preferied.
