He. is a remarkably compact and powerful horse, with immense bone, fine flat. leg, unequalled action, and docile i temper. He has proved himself a sure ! foal getter, and his stock are not surpassed by the progeny of any horse which has ever Berved in the Southland district, where he has travelled three years in succession. Surprise took second prize at two, three, and four years old at the Invercargill Annual Show, against all comers. Young Emperor is by Emperor, out of an imported Clydesdale mare, the property of James Patterson, Esq., M.L.C., Lovell's Flat. He is a bright dapple bay, rising five years old, 16£ hands high, is perfectly quiet, his fine action, superior bone, and great muscular power; and took the fbit nrize at the Tokomairiro Show as a yearling. Emperor, thu sire of Young Emperor, is out of Nancy, bred by Alexander Findlay, -Esq., Sandyhills, near Glasgow. Nancy was got by the celebrated Garvary Horse, and her dam by Scotsman, the property of James Khkwjods, Kilmaurs. Nancy was ; first shown as a three year old, and got first prize. at Himiltnn, first at Bailleston, second at Glasgow, and second at Kilbride. She was next shown as a brood mare at Glasgow and Kilbride, where she received similar honors. His sire is the well known imported horse Napoleon", whose. Stock is not excelled in- the province. Emperor is of great streugth, and compactly built. He has proved himself a sure foal-getter, and his Stock is of a superior description. Emperor waa shnwn at Dunedin when a two-year-old, when he received second prize uts the best horse of any age, his 3ire being first ; and first prize for the best two-year-old. He has also been shown at Oamaru and West Taieri, and each time a successful competitor. Terms, L 3 ; Groornage, os. His sire >ir Walter Scott, gained the first prize at the Highland Agricultural Society Show at Dumfries in 18G0 ; the iirst prize in Glasgow in 18C1 ; and at Battersea in 1862. His dam Maggy also gained th« first prize as a 3-year old at the Highland Society Show- ; the second prize among the best draught mares in 18G2 ; and the first prize as a brood mare in 1863. Young Lawrence's sire, Young Champion, was by Champion. Dam, a purebred Clydesdale mare, imported frorr^H Tasmania, and sold for upwards of 100^ guineas. Terms, £3 ; Groom's Fee, ss.
