He is a remarkably compact and powerful horse, with immense bone, fine flat leg, unequalled action, and docile temper. He has proved himself a sure foal getter, and his stock are not surpassed by the progeny of- any horse which has ever served in the Southland district, where he has travelled three years in succession. Surprise took second prize -at two, three, and four years old at the Bivercargill Annual Show, against all comers. A Paddock, for the accommodation of mares coming from a distance, will be provided, at Moa Flat, free of charge, without responsibility. Greatest care taken. Young Emperor is by Emperor, out of an imported Clydesdale mare, the property of James Patterson, Esq., M.L.C., Lovell's Flat. He is a bright dapple bay, rising five years old, 16J hands nign, ia perfectly quiet, h»s fine action, superior tone, and great muscular power ; and took the first prize at the Tokomairiro Show as a yearling. Emperor, the sire of Young Emperor," is out of Nancy, bred by Alexander Findlay, Esq., Sandyhills, near Glasgow. Nancy was got by the celebrated Garvary Horse, and her dam by Scotsman, the property of James Kirk woods,. Kilmaurs. Nancy was first shown as a three year old, and got first prize at H imilton, first at Bailleston, second at Glasgow, and second at Kilbride. She was next shown as a brood mare at Glasgow and Kilbride t where she received similar honors. His sire is the well known imported horse Napoleon, whose Stock is not excelled in the province. Emperor is of great strength, and com--pactly built. He has proved himself a sure foal-getter, and his Stock is of a superior description. Emperor was shown at Dunedin when a two-year-old, when he received second prize as the" best horse of any age, his sire being first ; and first prize for the best two-year-old. He has also been shown at Oamaru and West Taieri, and each time a successful competitor. Terms, L 3 ; Groornage, os. His sire Sir Walter Scott, gained the first prize~at the Highland Agricultural Society Show at Dumfries in 1860 ; the first prize in Glasgow in 18G1 ; and at Battersea in 1802. His dam Maggy also gained the first prize as a 3-year old at the Highland Society Show ; the second prize, among the best draught mares in 1562 ; and the first prize as a brood mare iv 1863.
