DRYBREAD.
(From our own Correspondent.) October 4.
The news from this district, although not exciting, is every encouraging. All parties are, hard at work, with plenty of water. There is now no idle time ; no lounging about with depressed countenances. Grreenbank and party are making a hole in the old gully ; ■ and the United Co. are working their way close up to the township. , At Tinkers things look bright. The Blue Duck, I think, will open the eyes of the people about here with their Christmas, washing up. They have had a splendid pressure, and having now got through ground which contained very heavy wash, have reached a nice patch free from boulders, easily got away and containing good prospects. I wish' them success, as they persevere, lose no time, , and strive to show a good dividend. T. Gray and party • are washing up, and I believe they show well. The Excel party are hard at it with plenty of water, and working into' ground which, according to prospects obtained, will yield them a good return. The ' Chinese from Thomson's Grorge and this district, have almost entirely cleaned out ; their present locale being Blacks. No. 1, where I hear there is an encampment of about 120. Latterly they have done nothing here, having run down all the available old tail races, and got hard up. I am glad to state that we have now managed to have the mail service altered. I suggested in a former letter the advisability of having the mails to arrive on Saturday instead of Tnesday ; and from a notification at the Post-office, I find that this arrangement will commence on the. first of January, 1873. . Great satisfaction is felt here at the withdrawal of the Mining Bill.
