TABLE HILL.

(From, a, Correspondent.) Jumping is the order of the day in this locality. A party of, miners residing here made an attempt oh Monday, the 7th inst., to gain .possession of the Ocean View claim by rather sharp practice. The time for which the shareholders had obtained protection expired on the previous Friday, and, as further protection could not be expected, they were by law compelled to start work within two days. On Monday morning, while preparing to make a start, to their astonishment they found a party of in en p & gg^ a g °& itie ground winch they (the Ocean View Co.) had held for the last twelve months. It was rather sharp work forneighbors not to give an hour- over the time provided by law.

The Ocean View Co. have two men at work sinking a main shaft, which, they intend to take down to a depth of 200 feet. They are now down nearly -10 feet, and have the reef about 2 feet thick, which continues to widen, and shows gold distinctly in the stone: Some capital will be required to sink to the depth they intend. I would like to see the shareholders decide upon forming a large company — in say 500 or 600 shares of £1 each. Were this done, I believe all the shares would be taken up in a very short time.

Mr. Higgins has had a washing-up from the Oxford claim, which has proved very satisfactory. He intends washing-up asjain to-morrow, and is hopeful of still better results, as the reef is seven feet wide in the face of the level, and gold can be seen in the

the stone,

I understand the shareholders in the ground that* has been jumped intend starting to work on Monday, the 14th instant.

TheAlexaudraCo.havemadenomove towards their work since the survey of the race. It is to be. hoped, if they intend to start, that they will do so without much delay, as the most of the" men that worked in that claim are now idle.

I forgot in my last to mention the birth of the first child in this place. Mrs. J. Higgins has added a fine boy to our population. I understand the Eev. Mr. Arnott will pay us a visit' this week. He is always made, welcome, and is the only minister who condescends to make his appearance amongst us.
