Wa^oanui, Sept. 23. Mr Ballance retires from the Egmont election in faror of Major Atkinson, the Government candidate. The reason of his retirement is, that the Patea electors were thrown off the roll by the revising officer. Wellington, Sept. 23. Messrs Gillies, Fitzherbert, and Curtis have not yet resigned their Superintendences. Great dissatisfaction is expressed thereat. The Wellington Independent this morning announce* that Mr Macandrew will dispense with Mr Reid's services. The proposed step is much approved here. Mr Barraud's art union contains water color drawings of the Lake scenery of Otago. The Otago Land Bill will meet with strong opposition in the Upper House. Mr Moorhouse's election is considered certain.
Auckland, Sept. 24. The Cure Mine has declared a dividend of 6s per share. Messrs P. Prime and George Staines were nominated for the Provincial Council. A child of Robert M'Ewen, of Pollock Settlement, has been accidentally drowned.
Wkllington, Sept. 25. The Independent to-day says the Governor has been consulted regarding the granting of a dissolution in the event of the present Government being defeated, and has refused to grant one unless on some constitutional question. It is expected the Opposition will table a want of confidence motion soon. The Superintendents not resigning their Provincial offices is weakening the Ministry.
