Considerable uneasiness has been felt lately at Wetherstones in reference to the understood intention of the Gabriels Gully Co. to raise the level of the water in the Phoenix da in, and strong representations have been made that the safety of the dam would be endangered by such a proceeding. We are authorised to state that the Gabriels Gully Co. have abandoned all idea of effecting any alteration of the level of the water, though the present embankment was originally constructed with a view to the water being raised ten feet above the present level, and threat facilities exist for enhancing the security of the dam by constructing an additional bywash of increased capacity. We may add that, since the Gabriels Gully Co. have taken over the property, Mr. O'Leary has been appointed inspector of the reservoir at their sole expense, the Company considering that the presence of a responsible inspector, resident at the dam, would afford the best security to the public against the occurrence of any injury to the dam from sudden floods or other unforseea

Referring to the recent action between Casey Bros, and the Gabriels Gully Co. , we have the pleasure to report that the Messrs. Casey have sinoe effected an amicable settlement of this question with the manager of the Company — the Company having offered to build in and maintain the portion of the race passing below their tramway.
