WASTE LAND BOAKD.

The Waste Land Board met at noon yesterday. Pnsent, the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands (in the chair), Messrs Allan, Duncan, and Hughes. Mr \V. Percival's application for 30 acres, part of section 30, block VI., North fl arbor and Blueskin, was declined, the Board not having power to sell such a small quantity, except when an applicant desired to complete a property, which was not Mr Percival's case.

The application of Mr W. Barry for the exclusive right of grazing on sections 35 and 36, block V, Otakia bush reserve, at 6d an acre a year, was referred to the Ranger for report. Mr R. Doull's application for section 1, block 11., Balclutha (railway reserve), as a site for a mill, was referred to the Government.

Mr Alexander Thomson, as agent for Mr George Thomson, Mausgatua. applied to purchase 43 acres of section 31, block I , Maungatua, a bush reserve. Mr Charles Reid, for Mrs Janet Gray, had also put in an application for the purchase of the same. It was resolved that the Ranger be instructed to report upon the matter. A decision on letters of Messrs Webster, Teschcmaker, and Campbell, relative to delay in the survey of their applications in the Oamaru circuit of district, was postponed, pending the decision of the Government upon auother matter in connection with the survey of the applications. Messrs Connell and Moodie, on behalf of Mr Alexander Grant, les c cc of Run 327, applied to be allowed to purchase 80 acres on that rnn, and surrounding his homestead, as shown by a tracing pr <duced. The application was made under clause 83 of the Otago Waste Lands Act, 1866. The run in question being, it ajtpeared, situate on a Goldfield. the application was referred to the District Warden for his report thereon. The Hon. Robert Campbell requested that the percentage area allowed for the survey of his application on Runs 17 and 28 shou'd be surveyed in a position to be mutually decided upon. It was resolved that the percentage should be added on at the northern end, miking the boundary nearly parallel with the Waitaki. Messrs Gillies and Street, for Messrs P. B. Boult and Co., Wakatip, applied for protection for their present tramway, and for protection for a continuation of the same, to be made ovt-r a line drawn from ihe boundary of the licensee's area to the edge of the bush. Protection was granted over the tramway as far as at present constructed. It was granted also over the proposed continuation in so far as it would not interfere with an existing right. Protection over both to have force till the land be required by the Government, and no compensation to be given.

Mr Stout, solicitor, applied on behalf of the District Surveyor of Oamaru, that one of the surveys suspended in that district, and which, he was instructed, had been commenced before the order to suspend came, might be allowed to be proceeded with, or rather that the plans be approved by the Board, after having been passed by the proper officer. The application was made as the surveyor had gone to at least LI 20 expense in this particular survey, and no application would be made regarding those surveys not commenced. The Board resolved that the subject having been referred to the Government, it would' decline to interfere. Mr Stout hoped the Press would take notice of the tact that the surveyor was not the cause of the delay in the surveys.
