THE VOLUNTEERS.

The results of a rifle contest between ten men of the Bth Staffordshire Rifle Volunteers and a similar number of men of the 2nd Hauraki (New Zealand) Rifles have just been issued. The conditions were that both teams should shoot in their own country, and on stated days, at distances of 200, 500 and 600 yards ; seven shots at each. The New Zealandera filed first at the Parawai range, and obtained the good score of 458 points. The Staffordshire men shot at their range last month in the presence of Major Bass, M.P., wio officiated, as umpire, and scored 519, or 61 more than their opponents. The highest individual scores made by the New Zealanders were — Private Constable, 55 ; Private Hoskins, 54 ; and Corporal Creighton, 50. On the victor's side — Captain Clay made 60; Corporal Buxton, 57 Lieutenant Anderson, 57 ; and Corporal Coates, 55. Canada is again represented at the great English competition. For this year's Wimbledon Camp "a team" of 20 was sent from Canada, the funds of the Dominion Association having been augmented by a grant 4,000 dollars from Parliament for that purpose.
