MORTALITY IN NEW ZEALAND.
Two thousand six hundred and forty-two deaths occurred in this Colony last year, and, as will be seen by the following table, the mortality amongst children under 5 years of age was ffceat, being nearly half the total number of deaths :—: —
Native News. —An Auckland telegram, dated September 2, says :-A Native who had arrived here from Mokau says that he saw' and spoke to Te Kooti, who is busy planting.' A Thames chief has returned from a visit to the King at Tokangamutu. He says that a number of people are living there apparently in great comfort, having plenty of live-stock and liquor Religious services are held daily.
